Night of Nisf Shaban is also the night when god almighty determines the destinies of the people, this includes who is living and who is dying in the coming year.
Shab e Barat and Shab e Miraj Difference
Shab e Barat and Shab e Miraj are two different events let us start with Shab e Miraj.
Shab e Miraj is clearly mentioned in Holy Quran in the first verse of Surah Isra, Isra means journey, this event is also known as Meraj un Nabi, this Miraj un Nabi is referred to Prophetic journey from Makkah to Jerusalem (Masjid al Aqsa) and Jerusalem to heaven to meet Allah (Sbt).
Allah (Sbt) called Prophet Muhammad from Makkah to heaven and send him back from heaven to Makkah in a single night.
This Isra and Miraj is the journey while prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) got the gift of 5 daily prayers which is called Namaz, this event is one the most important signs of prophethood.
Meraj un Nabi is mentioned in several Islamic books, describing the story in their way but the most authentic narrations are the narration in Sahih Bukhari.
“Narrated By Abu Huraira: On the night Allah’s Apostle was taken on a night journey (Miraj) two cups, one containing wine and the other milk, were presented to him at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the cup of milk. Gabriel said, “Praise be to Allah Who guided you to Al-Fitra (the right path); if you had taken (the cup of) wine, your nation would have gone astray.”
So, the short version of the story is.
In the night of 27th of 7th Islamic month called Rajab, the angel Gabriel came to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and got him to Jerusalem on burraq (a white horse kind of animal), where he prayed with rest of the prophets and prophet Muhammad led the prayer.
After leading the prayer angel Gabriel took him to heaven with the help of Allah almighty where he met different prophets on different heavens and at the zenith of the heavens Prophet (PBUH) met Allah (SBT) where he got the gift of 5 obligatory prayers.
Then he returned to Jerusalem & traveled back to Makkah, all this happened in a single night.
Next morning while Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) expressed publicly about his journey, some of them believed but some of them ridiculed him.
When the first caliph of Prophet Hazrat Abu Baqr (R.A) heard about this news he believed instantly without the second thought.
Due to this acceptance, he was awarded the title of Siddiq, Siddiq means the approver of the truth.
How to Pray on Shab e Miraj
Since these prayers are not the obligatory prayers you can pray as you want and make dua for Shab e Miraj, but scholars have given a format of prayer for this shab.
So, Isra and Meraj has the below-mentioned format for prayer
One should perform 12 rakaa’at nafl with one go, means you should not break your intention (Niya) before performing 12 raka’at nafl in one salam.
In every raka’at, one must recite Surah Fatiha (Alhamd Sharif) one time and Surah Ikhlas (Qul Hu Wallahu Ahad) thrice.
After completing 12 raka’ats one must remain to be seated on the same place and recite hamd U tasbeeh of Allah (Sbt) 100 times
Subhanallahi wal humdu lillahi wa la elaha illal lahu walllahu akber
Then seek forgiveness from Allah (Sbt) 100 times
Astaghfirullah rabbi min kulli zunbin wa atbu elaihi
Send 100 Darood on our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh)
And make dua, Allah will accept your prayers (In Sha Allah Ta’ala).
PS: All these numbers (other than raka’ats) are minimums you can recite these tasbeeh as much as you want, for ex: you can recite 1000 times rather than 100 times as much as you recite may Allah reward you more).
Nisf Shaban (Shab e Barat)
Nisf Shaban or 15 Shaban is the night of salvation, it is the night when Allah (Sbt) determines the destiny of humankind, planning of this shab e qadr also includes who is going to live or die in next coming year.
What is destiny
Destiny is also called taqdeer in a very common language, so taqdeer is the detailed statement what a person is going to do, as we all know there are two types of destinies one is fixed which can never be changed and another one depends on your deeds, choices, and dua
Examples of fixed destiny
When one will be born
In which gender one will be born
What will be one’s age
When will one die etc?
Unfixed destiny is the destiny that depends on choices, deed & dua, that’s why Allah (Sbt) has given free will to humans and jinns, humans and jinns can do whatever they want to do.
But Allah has given us a guide or commandments in the form of a book which is called the Holy Quran & Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Whoever will follow the commandments of the Holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet will succeed here in this life and hereafter.
As we all know making dua is highly recommended sunnah of beloved Prophet (PBUH), in the light of this hadith people make dua in hope for their better future.
Perform Chadarposhi and make dua for your better future.
